Meenakshi Nihalani is an active research-based visual artist from India. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture from Sir J.J. School of Fine Arts, Mumbai. Recently, she completed a residency and exhibited in Berlin, Germany, where her work represented agrarian culture and examined the social and psychological impact of British colonialism on Indian farmers, emphasizing the absurdities of politics and power over mankind. She was awarded the Discover for Emerging Artist prize by Prameya Art Foundation, New Delhi, and received a scholarship residency from Fundaziun Nairs in Switzerland in 2019. Additionally, she was awarded scholarships by the Honorary Indian Consulate in Stuttgart in both 2018 and 2019. Her practice reflects a sensitivity to the linearity of forms through sculpture, textile installations, and drawings, depicting glimpses of situations in postcolonial society and their impact on the environment and culture. The artist currently lives and works between Mumbai and Baroda, India.
