Hasan Ali Kadiwala
Hasan Ali Kadiwala (b. 2000) is a visual artist whose practice spans printmaking, painting and photography. He completed his BFA in Painting from M.A. Parikh Fine Arts College, Palanpur (2022) and his MVA in Graphic Arts (Printmaking) from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda (2024).
He draws from Urdu and Arabic texts, Islamic poetry, everyday life in his village and architectural details from Bohra havelis in Sidhpur. Working with printmaking, wood and layered surfaces, he creates textured works that reflect on identity, sound, and the idea of the sacred. Recurring motifs of birds suggest rhythm, memory and the layered resonance of the call to prayer. Through his practice, he continues to explore how traces of devotion and memory can inhabit material surfaces, creating a space between silence, repetition, and revelation.
His works have been exhibited at Sakshi Gallery and Method, Mumbai and Anant Art Gallery, New Delhi. He has also participated in exhibitions internationally, including We Were Always Neighbours at Asia Now Paris (2025), A Fleeting Moment of Infinity (London, 2025), as well as shows in Maldives, USA and Mexico.
He is a recipient of the Immerse Fellowship (2025), the State Lalit Kala Academy Award, Gujarat (2025) and the CLKA Open Hand Studio Scholarship (2024), among others. He was also selected for ART India’s 30 Under 30, recognising young artists bringing fresh perspectives to contemporary practice. He currently lives and works in Vadodara.
