Isa van Lier
Isa van Lier (1996) is a multidisciplinary artist, that works and lives in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Through her work, she creates a world of form and color that speaks to a universal childlike way of looking at life, one rooted in
curiosity, play, presence and wonder. Working with ceramic sculptures, paintings and immersive spatial installations that she calls 'temples', she brings her dream world into reality. By doing this she transforms inner landscapes into tangible environments, where visitors are invited to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with
themselves and their surroundings. In the spaces she creates she searches for a balance between the busyness and abundance of contemporary life and a timeless inner calm, similar to a serenity found in Zen temples. Inspired by Animism, she brings all her materials to life, with simple gestures. She believes that by paying close attention to the smallest details and approaching the world as if everything is alive, we can evoke a sense where we relate to our surroundings in a more conscious, gentle, and caring way. Isa van Lier's installations function as environments rather than objects alone, places where imagination and reality meet, and where visitors are invited to immerse themselves in an atmosphere of wonder. Isa van Lier (1996) is an artist based in the Netherlands. In 2020 she acquired a BA in Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague. In 2025, she opened her much-praised solo exhibition Lumina at the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, where she filled an egg with 1,000 ceramic creatures that welcome visitors to take a seat in the temple, offering a space for peace and reflection. She has also exhibited at venues including Kunsthal Rotterdam, Amsterdam Museum, Het HEM. Her work Kettingreactie was displayed at ArtZuid and in 2022 she participated in the international group exhibition Paradys in Oranjewoud, where she built her first Temple using works created at the European Ceramic Workcentre (EKWC).
