Jake Grewal
Jake Grewal lives and works in London. His paintings and drawings explore the merging of figure and landscape, where figures appear unmoored from time and space. Often nude and based on the artist’s own image, these figures are set within dramatic natural environments such as glowing sunsets or verdant pools. Time and transition are central to his practice, with the same figure frequently repeated within a single scene, creating open-ended narratives that invite viewers to form their own interpretations.
Drawing is fundamental to Grewal’s process and serves as the starting point for his larger paintings. Working primarily with charcoal, he repeatedly revisits figures and scenes across different mediums and scales until his narratives take shape. In his work, landscapes and bodies dissolve into one another, reflecting his ongoing fascination with transformation and the passage of time.
His solo exhibitions include Under the Same Sky at Studio Voltaire, London (2025), Some Days I Feel More Alive at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (2023), and Now I Know You I Am Older at Thomas Dane Gallery, London (2022). Selected group exhibitions include presentations at Pace Gallery, Los Angeles (2025), GRIMM, Amsterdam (2025), Maureen Paley, Hove (2024), and The British Museum, London (2022).
