Saviya Lopes
Saviya Lopes is a visual artist from Vasai, India, whose work explores her East Indian Catholic heritage through family archives, oral histories, and domestic craft traditions like her grandmother’s quilt-making. Her practice reinterprets history through a feminist lens, addressing themes of violence, heritage, colonialism, and identity. Engaging with women’s labour, textile history, and the body as a living archive, Lopes highlights emotional labour, care, and domesticity as acts of resistance and resilience.
She has exhibited internationally since 2015, with notable shows at the Dakar Biennale (2016), The Showroom, London (2018), IMMA Dublin (2016), and Fondation Fiminco, Paris (2021). She co-curated the Kochi Students’ Biennale (2022–23), received the Inlaks-UNIDEE Residency Award (2024), and currently serves on the advisory board of the Kaka Baptista East Indian Museum, Mumbai.
