Sugandha Rao

Sugandha Rao (b. 1998) has completed her BFA from College of Art, New Delhi, 2021 and MFA from Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, 2023. Her artworks have been showcased in various group shows including AIFACS, Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, SSVAD, Unurum Festival, Orissa. She immerses herself in the complexities of gender-related topics, utilising her feminist perspectives and experiences growing up in a progressive environment, where gender equality was valued and encouraged. Her work is influenced and driven by the desire to tell stories, questioning and challenging societal norms. Through her work, she aims to bridge the gap between art and design, engaging within the community. She predominantly works with printmaking and painting medium while introducing textiles techniques to enrich her expression.

 

Through continuous sketching and observation, Sugandha explores the complexities of gender identity, translating her findings into visual narratives. Her process involves in-depth research and engagement with various mediums to express her insights effectively. aiming to spark meaningful conversations and promote empathy and understanding. Sugandha’s aspiration is to harness the power of visual language to foster intellectual creativity with a practical purpose, making art accessible to a wider audience. She aims to create a space where sustainability, functionality, and personal growth intersect, bridging the gap between art, craft, and design in a universal approach.
